Proses pembuatan silk screen print

Dengan perkembangan technology printing yg sudah sangat advanced, maka printing your work semakin menjadi high-tech. Namun, masih banyak artists, mostly urban/street artists, masih tetap memakai proses screen printing.

Penasaran dengan proses pembuatan screen print seperti dibawah? (Daniel Danger “There’s Nothing Out There, I Don’t Hear What You Hear”)

Sang artist, Daniel Danger, menjelaskan prosesnya yg pada intinya cukup kompleks (mungkin tergantung dari detail print dan jumlah/copy yg dibuat). check out the process in details at DD’ site.

Dan juga informasi dari a street artist collective called Scrawl Collective based in the UK (great artists as members such as Mr.Jago, Hush, Hampus Ericstam):

From the Scrawl Collective site:
Silk Screen Printing, or serigraphy as it is sometimes known, is an ancient art with origins dating back thousands of years. The basic principles of the technique remain unchanged to this day, the only thing that has altered are the materials used. Traditionally screen printing was largely an industrial process, then in the 1960s Andy Warhol began using it to produce iconic images such as his Campbell Soup Tins and his portraits of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe and in doing so brought the practice to the attention of the art world. Although not immediately accepted by the art critics and museum curators of the day, it quickly gained popularity among the pop art and then the wider art fraternity. Over the years it has become the accepted medium for producing high quality art prints, as the artist is able to retain control of the end result throughout the print making process.

Recently much has been made of the merits of high end digital bubble jet, or giclee prints as they are sometimes called. As this technology has become more widely available it has even been claimed by some that silk screen printing will eventually die out. However whilst it is true that giclee prints produce decent reproductions we remain unconvinced of their long term provenance as legitimate artworks and for this reason we have always held back from going down this increasingly travelled road.

We are delighted to offer Silk Screen Prints of our work that we believe truly reflects our dedication to quality, artisanship and our motto “hand b 4 mouse”.

Eric Tan X-Men print from the G88 show

To all designers out there, keep your napkin handy like Eric Tan :-)
Dia bikin sketch awal print X-Men using a napkin (below) utk show Stan Lee di G88.

check out the final output below.

I like the print, with a touch of old Soviet propaganda art…

check out Eric Tan’ blog, lots of of his stuff being showcased there (a talented guy, been a Disney designer for 8 years).

NO/FI

Check it out, NO/FI, street artist based in LA, at a glance, his work can be seen as influenced by DFace, but he clearly developed his own style…

I enjoy his work (at least from what I can see from his flickr site), hopefully the wood work is as cool.
